I often wonder why is it many students, especially males, come into the school and expect not to learn art.Especially as they go up in higher forms, their output of creativity and skills decrease considerably. They instead focus on all the other "important" subject areas and not develop their skills or atleast try to appreciate it.They make art seem as the least important subject.
Does it stem from the home environment? Or is it only as a result of their peers? Also my fellow teachers, why is it that in Trinidad and Tobago you can never have the parents of the students motivating them to do their art assignments and commending them on their great job? At times these are the very same parents who would spend a lot of money to buy gifts, decorations and so for various activities and occasions, yet they are ashamed when their kids, esp the boys, make them....handcraftd items. Don’t the parents ever question their children and realise that their kids DO enjoy the art and it is relaxing and theraputic for them?… Just wondering....
I certainly agree with the comment, and I think that parents should not only focus on the academics, but also the arts. Parents are not aware of the importance of art in today’s society and hence the reason. the same way parents want their children to be educated, they should also educate themselves, simply by using the library or the internet, attending PTAs and becoming more knowledgeable ,especially where the Arts are concerned.

Well your post is based on the majority, and to that I agree however there are those who do take an interest in art. This problem is indeed occurring because of societies expectations of the male students and the lack of support from peers and parents, this causes the students to see art as a lesser subject. However do not loose hope because they are students and parents who appreciate art. Sir I think your statement when u say "especially males" is incorrect, this may be so in VBHC but not reflected trough the world. If u look at the different artist on You Tube u will see the majority are in fact male. In relation to my life, I do get support from my parents and some of my art pieces were given as gifts. I knew a girl who took her art seriously and she lost self confidence, she became very depressed one of he friends told her to put he art on You Tube and she did and to her surprise many people liked her art, the kind words of her subscribers rebuilt her confidence and now she has a display at her local manga convention. The students self confidence has allot to do with them perusing the arts.

ReplyDeleteI agree with the comment and i think parents should expose there children to more art.Students should educate themselves to expand there knowledge using the internet and books as well as parents because art is important.Art is all around us.
i agree with this because we and our parents only focus on academics not art.we need to focus on art to.THANK YOU
ReplyDeletesir i think u are absolutely right because parents nowadays do not really appretiate the wonderful art pieces thier child creates.

ReplyDeleteI agree with the comment and i think parents should expose there child more about art an not only academics. The students should also try there best to learn more about art because it is all around us.

YES SIR well to begin i agree with you but like as riaz said in his comment not all parents because i know from experience because my mom really appreciate art she loves it and she motivates me too do well in your class but not only in your class in all the other classes but i think that is a wonderfull comment you posted up it gives us the students to say about art

ReplyDeleteI do some what agree with your statements BUT there are some parents involve in student's art in V.B.H.C. Peer groups in modern time only encourage violence and corrupts the mind of the younger ones, blocking out art from your nation and society. But in today's society the younger ones feels as if they can talk to their elders like strangers. This is a saying that someone gave us:" Each and every minute wasted in school spells great disaster for my future." Only if students could follow this statement.
I must say that I agree with you 100%, because parents nowadays who have children do not support their children as well as appreciate the art pieces that they make. Another point is the fact that the parents support the curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities that the children do in school, like sports, and many other activities.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for understanding my points.

Yes,I strongly agree and also Riaz made a very strong and significant point I also want to prove a next point which is "most" children take Art Class to be a joke and a free period so thats they can relax and do nothing.I am sure you see this in all forms in Vishnu boys and these Children who make the noise deprive the children who really want to learn and study art I also stress that Parents and family member tell the young children art is for girl etc.I would recommend that you get a Little strict and alerted of who makes the trouble in the classes so children would see the interests in art and begin to learn it as you are also a dean at Vishnu boys Hindu College

sir i agree with both you a Riaz because there are many students also adults that want to improve or start art as their subject or hobby. They mabe arn't taking heed on it or really getting help or motivation for anyone. So do not feel bad because ther are one who do love art

ReplyDeletesir i agree because some parents find art not being important like other subjects. what the parents are failing to realise is that art is not only a subject but art is also another way for students to open up theirselves. some students would not like to talk about their problems but instead they will paint and draw to relief their stress. art is not only a subject but it is also a hobby and a way to relief stress.

ReplyDeleteFirstly, I agree with the post. The population of Students are not aware of Art. In such a school i no that doesnt introduce art. My opinion about the post is that it is remarkably true. There is a large amount of students who doesnt or not intrested in art, but yet there are those who are. The ones who are have a better opportunity in developing there skills and enlarging their imagination. All males are confusing. The majority of artists are males. Therefore the male population is not understood. As for me, the art pieces i do is hand crafting. With this i give it/ share it with friends and family. My parents are the first that get my pieces are a gift. I thank you Sir for providing this blog so i can express my feelings about poster you post

sir you are not completely right..maybe it's because you teach a boy school that's why you fine males are not into art as females also when children are in lower forms art is not really complicated as it is when they go up into higher forms.also art gets harder the more you get older and go to higher forms so maybe lower forms are into art more than the higher forms because the lower forms usually do the basics which makes it fun and hey are interested but when they go into higher forms it becomes more complicated and they have to take art to a harder level.
and yes i do believe that the parents of the students are not motivating them to do their art assignments and commending them on their great job..but everything has a reason ,, i think that is so because most of the parents were not taught art at the time they were in school so i guess the parents are not educated enough about art to support their child.

ReplyDeletei agree with the comment and i think that parents should not only focus on academics. They should also be focusing on art because it is a good way to spend your leisure time and also helps relief stress. Parents should be supportive if their child is active in art.
sir i must say i backyou up 100%

ReplyDeleteI do agrre with riaz because art is a way in which people get to express their emotions an reflect on how they fell.Art is everything you do daily drawin during class, just to have fun with it and enjoy what you do.If you dont that is not art.Art is my way of expressing how I feel an how I express how i feel,I let my imagination run wild an parents should understant how their children feel an express their self an the parent sould be giving 150% of attention to give praise an a normal "job well done!" to their children. The paren is showing the child that it is ok to express how they feel an in turn the child will not be agressive or impatient an will also help motivate their children to come.Parents should be able to help with simple art projects, give views, help with ideas, introduce new materials. So sir I agree with you 100%

ReplyDeleteYes Sir I agree with u.Most parents don't let their children choose art because they say art cannot build their future. They need to motivate their children and encourage them because art is a wonderful subject and it is all around us.Parents are not aware of the importance of art in today’s society and hence the reason. The same way parents want their children to be educated, they should also educate themselves. My parents motivate me and always encourage me to do art cause dey love it as welll.

ReplyDeleteI do agree with most of that comment but not all parents are like that. There are some families where both or one parent supports their children but other than that the other stuff you post like saying art is relaxing.
In my home both my parents do support me and I try my best in art for most important things like a project and any other art base work.

ReplyDeleteSir i strongly agree because some parents take art for ganted. Parents know art is money and they depress their children by telling them that they cannot do art.Well in my own life my parents have no problem with me doing art.I get support from my parents and i have no problem getting money from my parents.I also have and outside work on weekend so i help myself buy materials for my art in VBHC.
I guess parents see art as useless cause parents want their children to be docters lawyers etc.
