The Art of Paper Cutting
In the many years gone by the use of paper (mainly kite paper and crepe paper) were regularly used to decorate the homes and temples of the East Indians who decorated for celebratory and religious purposes.
Even though simple, they were most beautiful, effective and elegant. Paper cutting allowed for many intricate patterns highlighting curves and geometric shapes and the more talented and patient craftsman would create silhouettes of the Gods and Goddess. Paper folding and cutting also resulted in the popular "bird nests" which added great dimension to the decorated areas.
Wedding marrows of long ago entailed the beautiful crepe paper art work highlighting intricate and complex geometric designs combined with vibrant colours. This was a sight to see by the invited guests of the Hindu weddings long ago. The craftstmen took great pride in this as the wedding marrow was of course one of the main focal point of the wedding.

Paper cutting is an interesting topic because you can make all different kinds of designs with just paper. The most exciting experience during this lesson is the cutting of the paper because not all times you know what you are going to cut and the exciting part is that you can use you hands to just cut the paper in different designs. This skill I can now use at any occasion to decorate with this new skill and to know I used just paper. This art form is very useful because people who learn this new art form can now use it for good. I believe this a good art form to know.

ReplyDeleteThis topic is very interesting because you can turn an ordinary piece of kite paper into a beautiful design. Although this topic was interesting I did not like it because i found that this was to simple and you didn't really have to do anything much so I didn't like it as much as the other topics
The most exciting experience I had during doing this beautiful art is when I had to make different designs. This was exciting for me because I was amazed when I realized the beautiful patterns I could get by just cutting a piece of paper in any direction. This art form has benefitted me because when I am getting married I will cut it and put it in the tent. I think this art form is excellent.
ReplyDeleteThe most exciting experience for me in paper cutting is when I had to create a whole bunch of different designs using just crepe paper or kite paper. The skill was totally malevolent and innovative with just the use of paper alone by creating such wonderful master piece by hands. This skill has taught me on how to use my lines of designs on one or more pieces of paper. This art form as taught me alot on to design wonderful patterns on piece paper which was astonishing because I didn't think you could design such a thing of beauty on a piece of paper.

ReplyDeletePaper cutting is a very easy art form because it can be used in many different ways EG: ceremonies.You have a unique ability in your hands by just taking a scissors and cutting a design on a piece of kite paper.
The most exciting experience for me during this lesson of paper cutting was being able to create new patterns and seeing the outcome. I have benefited from this skill since now I am able experiment and do my own stuff. I believe that this art form can be used for a wide variety of occasions and it is very cost effective.
ReplyDeleteI think this is a very cost-less art form that mainly deals with symmetrical shapes and patterns. This art form can be done on many types of paper (Kite,Crepe,Construction) paper so therefore you can do this art form without any plans or preparation since it only involves paper and a pair of scissors. This art form is beneficial since it can be used in many occasions e.g. Party,Ramayan,Wedding. The most exciting think about this art form is knowing that there are many other symmetrical shapes other than a square ,rectangle,etc. I think this art form should should be teach in every school.

I find the most interesting part is when you are finished and open up the paper to see a beautiful piece of art. I would try to do this at least once a year.
ReplyDeleteI liked the lesson paper cutting,I like this because it was an educational lesson about our culture long ago. This lesson taught me what our ancestors used to decorate wedding tents and they homes for religious festivals and. Now I could used this skill of paper cutting to decorate my family's wedding tents,my home or even my wedding tent.
ReplyDeleteThis activity is very fun and enjoyable, my most exciting experience when doing this art is when i was cutting the patterns on my kite paper.I put all kinds of deigns on my paper from non Hindu patterns to Hindu patterns.With the education of this art form i would take paper cutting designs to a whole new level.I could take the kite paper and cut patterns on it and hang it on a wedding car so when the car is driving and the wind is blowing the paper would make a calm and soothing sound. Everyone should try paper cutting designs, it has no limit of what you can do.You should try doing paper cutting designs, but don't wait for tomorrow when it could be done today remember what could be done should be done today because tomorrow might never come.

ReplyDeletePaper Cutting is a wonderful and enjoyable topic.I learnt that you could make wonderful art work with kite paper by cutting and folding paper.At first I was shocked at the wonderful art pieces my class and myself made but I realised that it was really easy.It was a wonderful topic to me and I enjoyed it

ReplyDeleteThis art form is not new to me but I never really considered doing it because I didn't think it was interesting. That all changed though when sir taught us this art form known as paper cutting. I found out that you can not only cut beautiful patterns into the paper but manipulate it to your advantage as well. Most people will think that you have to be an artist to do this but truthfully it is very simple. I hope that when I grow older that I will improve my skills in this art form.

The only thing with this art form is that you have to be very careful when you are cutting the designs because if you use kite paper it can tear very easily.Besides the process of designing paper cutting this art piece in the end it will be a master piece.

While doing this activity i realized that doing this was hard but i kept on doing it and finally it came out as beautiful as i anticipated. This form of art can be used in weddings, prayers etc. After doing this activity i realized that making this art can do you great achievements.

Mehndi was the most interesting topic for me because i learnt a lot of new things about my heritage and i liked doing it. It is beneficial to people because they can use it for many occasions such as weddings. It is very hard to do but once you put your mind to it anything is possible.

I never knew that with a scissors you could transform kite paper into this beautiful paper pattern. However I did not like this art form because I found that it was to easy, but i will keep doing to make more complicated patterns

Paper cutting is an interesting for me. In my option paper cutting can help you express your feeling like: love=heart etc. This type of art is use for prayers, Hindu weddings and temples. I did not know that you can use paper to create such beautiful types of patterns and designs. I will surely pass on this type of art to my family and when I get older to my children. The most exciting experience was to come up with patterns and designs.

Paper cutting can be used at many different celebration such as weddings and parties. I have learnt many different ways in doing paper cutting and now I can show my family and friends and also my children when I am older what I have learnt in school. ReplyDeleteI am really fascinated with this form of art called decorative paper cutting. This is a form of decoration that is rarely seen. It was abundantly seen in Hindu religious ceremonies such as: weddings, Ramayans etc. I would like to see more of these decorations so I enjoy learning this decorative art form. This is very beneficial to me because I will be able to do this form of decoration for myself when I have religious functions and be able to teach this to my family as well. The most exciting part of this lesson is when I cut the paper and then opened it to see my design and when I saw it I realized I was capable of doing something so beautiful from kite paper. It's amazing simple crepe or kite paper can be transformed so beautifully.Thank you Sir Dilip for teaching this skill to me, so I can try to preserve paper cutting as a form of decoration.

The most exciting experience for me during paper cutting was how Mr. Dilip Maharaj had just cut the piece of paper in a few shapes and it turned out to be very nice. I have beneifiited from this beacuse I have learned to make very nice things out of just paper

ReplyDeleteThe most exciting experience I had when I was doing this lesson is curiosity because I wanted to know what creation we could make beside a paper plane and boat. I have benefited from this skill the art of paper cutting and now I know instead of buying decorations for prays and weddings I could make my own and save money. This art has helped me in school for my home work and has also helped me for examination. This was the easiest topic in art that we had to do in Visual Arts because all you have to do was create a pattern in you mind and just put it on paper. This Art form is simple ,beautiful and creative and requires a lot of creativity. When you can do that you art would be very beautiful.

I did experience some issues in using the scissors for cutting precise designs.However I really enjoyed it very much though and the experience was a first for me in this art. I liked using the very simple colorful paper and creating beautiful designs.

As I commense the cutting on to the paper I had a felling as if it wasn't going to come out right but,as I opened the papers there were designs of alsorts of shape ,colour and size ,this for me was an amazing experiance.
