Summer Vacation 2010...and Art? ( For all Form Classes 1-5)

Hi Students. First of all, sorry to not keeping the blog up and running as promised. But, from this September, things will be better managed. I know most of you kept asking for more stuff to be posted... so brace yourselves come this September, 2010!!!

On another note, I hope you guys had a great time during the summer holidays. I know most of you were glad for this period and to get away from all the heavy studies and stuff but do remember Art is FUN, RELAXING, CREATIVE, EXPRESSIVE and also DARING and WOW!! I NEVER KNEW I WAS THAT GOOD!! .

Seriously, I do trust and hope that you DID try some craft projects, paintings, drawings, scribblings, and so forth. It is possible to enjoy your summer vacation and develop Art skills and Art Appreciation of art which is all around us. Think about it......When you go shopping, or to different places while with your family, be it in Trinidad, Tobago or other countries, LOOK and OBSERVE everything (buildings, sculptures, paintings, jewellry, textiles, landforms, parks, hotels and their landscaping, CEPEP...everything!) with your artistic eye. Or, by simply asking yourself, " I wonder how they created that?"....and then try to figure it out. You wil learn a a great deal on your own and in your own way when you think like an artist or creatively. You will come to better appreciate Art that is all around us...man-made and natural.

As you all would know by now, Vishnu Boys Hindu College is celebrating it 10th Anniversary this year.... We have lots of things in store... Art wise, I am planning an Art Exhibition featuring the works of your students, past students, teachers and even parents!!! There is going to be lots of excitement...the date is yet to be announced....but you guys will get it first via this blog. So, why not do some research, do some art...on your own. You never know when that piece could be your masterpiece!!!!

Enjoy!!! ...and feel free to comment and share with us what you did for your summer holidays.....Art related of course!

  1. Sir i find your points very interesting but what more do you think we can do you think that can be done to make art a little more unique is it our taste in material and fabrics or maybe even our choice of our very own colours.
I recapped most of that you told me on using dye from an extractable source.I was maybe thinking do only petals operate with this system or is it our challenge to find out what excitement colour has to offer-Kailash Paul of 3V.

First of all,my vacation was filled with art.During my vacation I looked and observed art such as: cultures(Raksha Bhandhan),paintings, sculptures(pottery),the natural beauty of the landscape(Mt. St. Bendict), designs of home-made jewelery(made by my mother),and mostly everything around me. Everywhere I went,I found one or two things that were interesting and fascinating at the same time.
About two weeks into the vacation, I sat in the gallery just looking around and I found that the poui tree by my neighbor's home looked so easy to paint so I sat down sketching it and when i had finished, and so by the next day I was finished.
The other time, my mother was making jewelery to display and sell at an exhibition in a small community group called the "WOMEN 'S GROUP" .There I found out how to make jewelery. It was very simple, all you had to do was to get the material, the specific tools and to have every thing neat and tidy. After Learning the basics I produce a couple items and sold it , making a little change for me.
My last creation of art was when I was home and my father had bought a yard of gravel. In the gravel it had more mud than anything and in that mud is where I found clay ,at that moment I remembered that on television a man was showing the public have to shape stuff. From that memory I made a deya, a small cup, a clay vase and a fish sculpture.
Here are some pieces just to name a few of art i did over my vacation, well almost but just remember that .........art is every where.

  3. Dhansham Khadan 2b; my vacation was filled with art experences. Uasually a babber shop would have different hair styles posters but this time it was different.Babber himself had had colourful paintings and other art crafts of his own.First the crafts that he made was from wood. The pieces of wood was sand papered and then vanished then took shells and a small flat piece of ply wood resting the vanished wood that had several peakes and making designs with the shells .

  4. Sita ram everyone i am writing this to express the artistic work which I did during the summer vacation. During the vacation I went to the beach and I saw this beautiful scenery which inspired me to try and interpret the scenery in a way which would be easy to paint and will look good in any home. What I did was I went to the supermarket and bought some art supplied and I sketched out what I was going to do, when it was all done I started painting it onto the sketchpad. The best part was learning to mix basic colors to form a type of color which added alot of expressions to the painting. While I was painting I realized that painting help you to relax and you can express the painting in any way u want. After I allowed the painting dry and I bought a picture frame and I hung it in the living room and it really brought out the space plus it made my family realized that one little thing can express alot.

  5. Dear Sir,I totally agree with what you said about dye being extracted from flower petals in all flower plants.I thought that that was was very facsinating.During my vacation, I was moving, but that did not stop me from seeing the wonderful colours and expressions around me in the form of natural art.En route to Trinidad, I noticed the sea.The colours were so deep and sometimes vibrant and sometimes lazy.
While the plane was landing, I made a wonderful discovery.Trinidad was a perfect little island. It looked like something a toddler drew, but was so unescapably overwhelming that i could not lookaway. It had to be the most sophisticated piece of artwork, so I drew the outline, but honestly it was a little challenging with the noise and the turbulence. But it was one of my best pieces.
Upon reaching inside the airport I saw the artwork of my home country, Trinidad and Tobago displayed on wall tapestries. The expressions of the people were so real.At one point I looked in the mirror and saw how life was long ago.It was the culture of my people.Trinidad & Tobago came a long way to get its independence and it is a high honour to be part it.............Art is in life, Life is Art.

  8. My vacation was fulfill with excitment.I observe how my aunt was arranging her flowers vase with new flowers,it look atrtistic when she was finished because the colours blend in and made it look very real.
As she was doing that I decided that I am going to draw and colour a flowers arrangement,I took at least five time to get my flowers arrangement to look passable. My background was a sky blue coming down to a dark blue, which sir have shown us to do using paint.i never knew we can do that usin marks. That was art in my vaation (kevon mungroo) [3v]

  9. Hello there sir for my vacation i admired beach sides and thought of all the different collages that made up the sea and the sea shore the different patterns and of the waves. The sunset is what would have inspired me the most. That brief moment when the sun is at its reddest in the evening it would inspire all.
For my vacation there was not much art to go around but as vikash bridgemohan said art is everywhere. That is when it hit me that there is never a dull moment in art.Veekash Ramlal 3:V

I understood that I could have spent my summer vacation way better than i had, after reading your post. What you said really opened my eyes.
My vacation was not as full as art but there was still art all around.
I went to the beach, cinema and prayers. There observed the details on which the events and places were built on.For instance in the prayers I watched the pundit as he decorated the pictures the art that was done there won over my astonishment.I was amazed by the simplest forms for art and began to appreciate it.
The last class that we had was very interesting and inspired me.The way you told us how to make the rakhi was amazing i did not know that there were so many techniques that could have been done.
Next year I will try to include more art in my two months summer vacation and also in my Christmas and Easter holliday

  12. Dear sir , well over my summer vacation i did'nt really do much in art sorry to say, because at that time i was'nt really feeling it, but in class Monday you really inspired me on art that how you could extract colours from nature . I was really interested in some parts when you said that you can take a natural red flower petal and make red dye , well i find that intereting so the rakhi assignment you gave me i'm goin to try and extract the yellow colour from the petal of a buttercup flower and see how it's going to work . I'm going to try to be really creative on this assignment.

Sita ram.During my summer vacation I visited many places like Tobago, the river, the beaches and the airport. But the one that had an interested art scenery was at the airport. Before my grandmother was about two go on her flight to America, she showed me some hand painted pictures that was in a small store in the airport. The painting was about how long ago people lived, how there were houses made up of mud and how they wash they cloths with something called a scrubing board.the paintings were so colourful,so real looking and so amazing.I watch thosed picture until we were ready to go home. The next day I tried painting the picture I saw at the airport. It was very diffcult thing to do.I could not paint the picture so I got mad and I left the painting unfinish. It was so diffcult to paint.
Thats my story about what I saw amazing in art during the summer vacation.

During my summer vacation I visited Tobago and different parts of Trinidad. In Tobago there were lots to see. The port building was artistically designed with different shades of blue glass which highlighted the water color in the sea. In Scarborough I visited a souvenir shop, we brought a creative wooden art piece shaped like Tobago. In the shop there I also saw some lovely hand crafted jewelry made out of stones, shells and beads, my cousin and I tried some on our own at home, this was fun . There were also hand crafted clocks which I found was very special because there was only one of each kind. One of the clocks which I really liked had a background designed with different coloured dried flower petals depicting the National flag of Trinidad and Tobago. It was a marvelous sight to see its beauty.
In Trinidad we visited the Pitch Lake, the black in the Pitch Lake reminds me of the people of the land, that strong background which depicted on the flag as one people.
I visited the magnificent seven buildings. The one that stands out to me is the Stollmeyers Castle. I admired this most because the winter colours on the castle look very creative for a tropical island. I found this artistically beautiful. I hope the next time you are passing the Stollmeyers Castle you should take a closer look.
Also this summer vacation I created a vase arrangement for a dinner that my aunt was holding. I was very proud of this arrangement. There were flowers of different sorts including cat –tails draping from the vase; I even tried to capture this on paper, I did not do it justice though. For my next summer vacation it would be trilling to fill the void by creating art to pass the time. Personally to me, art is not what you see but is how you see it.

  19. My vacation was not an artistic one,few however I visited only a few places which possessed beauty in it's own way.I visited the Temple in the Sea on Independence night. It was a sight to behold.Vast sea as far as the eye can see, view of Port-of-Spain in the distance, the temple in the sea and a pletora of fireworks any colour you can imagine! The seascape view of Port-of-Spainin the nightime was most amazing and eyecatching.Thousands of lights glistened in the distance.I wanted to paint this picture but unfortunately I could not find the time to do so because school was about to reopen.I hope I am able to find time in the new school term to do so.

I said that because I got art as one of my subjects and I didn't do anything in art throughout my summer vacation. As an art student in your class, I have decided to visit more art websites and more art stores to view the beauty of art and get more ideas for when I'm in your art class I will be more successful. Thank you sir for taking your time to make this website to inspire more and more people to see the wonders of art.

Sir over the august vacation I encountered many art experiences. At the barber shop, there were different types of hairstyle designs posters as well as I saw how art was used in haircutting where the barber artistically marked various designs on his customer's heads including spider webs, playboy bunnies and other intricate designs. On the wall he hung up beautiful and decorative paintings as well. The framework on those pictures were very artistic because the wood which was used, was sand papered and then vanished carved into different patterns to leave a shiny and extravagant sight on the pieces of wood. Then, shells were placed on the side of the frame making it look glamorous. It can be said that art exists everywhere and also, I find this blog very interesting for upcoming artists where they can express their appreciation and views of art giving ideas to other artists.

For my holidays I did not do much art and I feel kind of bad about it. I did two paintings one of them was a painting of a sea shell. I was collecting sea shells when I just got an idea to paint a sea shell. I sketched the shell (about four times to get it how I wanted to look) then paint it. It came out very good.
The other was when I went to Port-of-Spain I took out a picture of the buildings. When I reach home I sketched it and it was looking very beautiful. The next day I painted it but the paint spoiled it I found it was not looking good again after I painted it, but everyone who saw it say it was look beautiful.
For me I think I need to work on my paintings.
    Art helps us express ourselves.
I think everyone should do art because it is easy, fun and has lots of jobs (artist, cloths designer, landscaping etc).

And what you said was correct sir, when i saw this particular view of thousands and thousands of coconut trees i ask my self how long did it take for all those trees to grow, and the diffrent colours of coconut trees it had is what made it look so beautiful. But i really think i should of did some artistic work over the vacation to help me do much better in art work and i should of painted a picture of thoses coconut tress.

I descovered the use of charcole and how it addes to the drawing, so i decided to trry it and to my amazemet i foundout that it looks soo much better. I have received many comments on my drawings all good ones thankfully.

  47. During my summer vacation, I have come to realize that art, not just what art appears 2 be, but what art is. Art is a lot more prevalent than it may seem. Within my vacation i was able to get out of the house a little, and explore many ''hot limin'spots'' with my friends, like movie town and trincity mall and numerous house parties. It is during this time I floated up to my more fashionable side. Before My first art class at school, i never even considered the clothes that i wear to be Art. I have seen what to wear and wht not to wear. After all my observations of the most popular pencil pants and tight shirts embroidered with tribal prints, i have settled with looser more '' baggy'' clothes like wear jackets and old jeans, i have never considered my physical appearance to be Art, but i am glad now 2 have acquired that knowledge

When all of my lessons was over and I was about to enter the 7th week of my vacation where I would really get time for myself I had a loss in my family. Unfortunately, due to all these things I didn't have much time to do any art. In art, I realized my strong area i n art was craft. I am disappointed in myself because there was no craft making being done. My skills must have have gotten much weaker due to not practicing. So i decided that I will have to make up for it. Although, if i had to make a piece , I would have made a necklace out of various shapes, colors and sizes of seashells because when you think of summer, you think about the beach where you find lots of seashells. A seashell necklace would have been perfect to make over the summer holidays. So please forgive me and remember ART IS EVERYWHERE!!!!

For the summer vacation I visited Columbus Bay. The surrounding was so beautiful, and that inspired me to do a painting on the magnificent scenery .I hang the finished painting in my living room, it drew a lot of my families’ attention and their encouragement motivated me to do more paintings. But I will like to thank you for setting that good foundation for me, keep up the great work.

  51. Whenever I think of Art, I think of creativity and structure and other things. This is what I did when I plaited my very own "Rakhi" for "Raksha Bandhan". I have always remembered that Art is everywhere and in everything. I see that in the sun as it rises and sets. It is a bright orange colour. That was what I did for my Summer Vacation.
    Thanks!

I do feel that this site is interesting and t will motivate me and others to get involved in art. I do thank you Mr. Dilip Maharaj for publishing this very interesting website and article Kiran Bedessie 4H

  54. During my vacation I didn't do anything artistic, because I taught that doing art during the vacation is a waste of time, but I was wrong.Anyway I have visited lots of places with lots of colors and beautiful backgrounds where I will use later on in art. Art is a subject that relaxes you, it also help you to imaging that you were really there in the situation depending on what kind of art you are doing. By also doing art in a professional way you could make it a business and sell artistic pieces and make money for yourself. By doing art it is more thing to gain than lost. So my advise to all students is to do art later on in your studies.

For this summer I visited various places in Trinidad, one being the San Fernando Hill. I was amazed at the landscaping -- the rocks; trees...

Most of all I was completely amazed by the overview of Southern Trinidad and the Gulf of Paria.

When I got home, my sister and I painted pictures of the sea. Hers came out way better, but hey at least I tried! I was proud of my work...

  58. Shaheed Ramsughag 4H Sita ram.During my summer vacation I visited many places like Tobago, the river, the beaches and the airport.

    Dear sir,
I just want to let you know that I fine art is real cool. There's so many colours you can use but anyway,I was going to the beach (manzanilla) with my family and on our way there I saw a man on the side of the road drawing something.I was so curious to know what he was doing so I just asked my dad to pull over.
The man was sketching out the coconut trees. He was so relaxed and he was sitting upward and js breathing in the air.He started to mix colours when he was finish sketching. At the end the painting looked so beautiful the branches of the coconut trees looked so real .It was real cool.when I reached home I jus ran straigth
to my room and got all my art stuff and I started to sketch out the outline of the palm trees to the front of my home,I relaxed and started to paint. It came out ok and I even hung it on the wall in the living room so my parents could notice it.Art is my coolest hobby I even want to become a great artist like u sir.I'm
even sure that I could paint for the rest of my life.Art is the coolest real inspiring....

"Art is a metaphoric expression of oneself".

My summer vacation was "awesome". I visited the waterpark and beach a lot. I had fun with my family. It was an experience of natural art.

I would encourage anyone to go out and visit the waterpark. It was outrageous!

For my past vacation I experienced nature from a new perspective and as an art student I relise that art can be from your imagination, your point of view and along the way have fun creating a piece you would feel proud of doing.
