Form 1B ONLY. Reading: Creation of Comic Characters

In this post I am including information that will help you better understand Comic Characters. There are two link that will great add to your knowledge learn in class and they will help you in developing your skill even more.  Do not forgot to Comment on This Blog. At the bottom of this page you will find the Guided Questions for your Reflections.

I am sure you had a wonderful experience creating your own characters. Keep a collection of the characters you created and you can always add more to your collection. This is a nice way of bring life to your environment.

Remember, a comic character can be created from anything- a shoe, tin, pencil, eraser, lunch bag, spoon......... Even a shape can come to life by simply adding eyes, nose, a mouth, even arms and legs.

               Pencils coming to life by adding facial features. 


One of the most important aspects in drawing comic characters besides the facial and body features would be Expression of feelings and mood of the character. These would include happiness, sadness, showing agitation, hostility, envy, hate, anger and so on.

  1. I think that this information is very helpful because this information helps with facial and emotional characters. This information benefited me because when I have to do another comic I can now have a better understanding of the expressions of my characters. I am feeling more confident about my development as a Comic Artist because I can do a comic, Ican draw better and also send out a message for the reader of my comic.

  2. The information in this blog is helpful to young artist who would like to explore the other functions of drawings. The information in the blog has benefited me because there many thing that I never knew and I learned the new ways to draw and I always draw the human form but we learned that we can draw with shapes and fruits. I feel more confident because I learned to draw with objects other that the human form. So it can be easier to draw in art.

  6. This blog provided me with the information of creating comics and drawing characters in
    human form such as proportion (arms,legs and head ) and the facial features of a character.
    The learning outcomes of this lesson which I have learn is the development of characters and
    how to develop a comic . In closing I would like to thank my art teacher Mr. Dillip Maharaj
    for his great effort behind us .

  7. The information provided in this blog as well as in class has indeed been beneficial to me because I have never been fully exposed in the creation of my own comic strip. So all of these bits of information on facial expression, body language and creativity has helped me to understand and appreciate comics a lot more and now I am more confident in creating my own.

    I think information provided in this blog is really how create a character in a comic for example you can give a colour pencil human features.

    The information on this blog is very interesting, creative and inspiring. This information has benefited me in a way that inspired me to do some facial expressions and draw some characters. I fell more confident of my development in comics because I felt like I can do comic with nice characters.

    The information provided on this blog to me is informative. Yes, because I learnt of all the hard work behind comics and it gives me a sense of appreciation to it. I am feeling more confident because when I finished my comic I didn't realise i was capable of doing a comic script until I completed mines.

    Yes ! The information that was provided on this blog has enhanced the way in which I create my characters because it shows me that it does not matter what character I choose or how perfectly I draw it no! This blog has thaught me that an artist focuses/ contemplate on the facial expressions presented by the character drawn.

  22. I looked at my classmates comics and there were some mistakes in the comic. I was able to identify most of the mistakes in the comic. I felt a little weird to critique my friends comics because I felt that I would hurt there feeling’s. In the end I realized that I was not hurting their feelings but I was inspiring them to do their best in whatever they do in art.

The information provided was very useful and creative.Yes it inspired me because it shows how to learn more how to make your facial expressions.I'm more confident about my development on being a comic artist because I learnt many expressions that I can use for comics and the characters in the comic brings out the comic and if we use these expressions given our comics would come out even more.

  25. Some of it was indeed creative, i think the facial expressions were humorous and quite useful to someone who's interest lies in comic sketches. A comic artist can develop confidence by doing several things such as observation which is practiced in everyday life. I do feel more confident and positive about being a comic artist since my passion has been and always will be art and all that art entails....

    The information is useful because it shows us ways facial expressions looks like and yes it is used in comics to show the feelings of characters. I enjoy this topic because it give me a better idea of how to draw facial expressions and when drawing comics I would know the feelings of the characters.

    I learn that a comic can be any thing around us if we put eye nose or mouth on an item and to save all the characters. The information made me learn how to change a face to show different emotions. I am feeling more confident because I am able to make my own person and make there character.
