ALL FORMS.......Divali Celebrations, 2011

All Forms are to participate in this reflection and discussion. You would have seen the many transformations taking place at the college in preparation for Divali. You would have also seen the Visual and Performing Arts department coming together and work in bringing a combination of Art, Music and Dance in the Ramleela production.

I would like you to think about the following questions and share your thoughts with us:

1. Did you just see Ramleela, or did you see the ART aspect as well?
2. What are your thoughts in taking fabric and draping the walls of the school? Did you ever thought that you could have used saris to drape columns?
3. What mood was created when the school was transformed?
4. How did the transformation impacted on you?
5. What are some things we can do to improve the decor of the school for next year's celebrations?
6. How are you going to decorate/how did you decorate you home for the Divali season?

Please answer in a paragraph format.

  1. I think that with all these plays that our school has,i think that everything that the ramleela students did was involved in art and also to the way of taking beautiful saris and placing them as a form of decoration was really put together to show planning and also creativity.I felt really amazed of using our own cultural wears and forming them to decoraters and also next time i should say that they should let classses make bamboo bending patterns and light them up.i also decorated my home with beautiful and big rangolis and als with bamboo pettern with deyas lit all over them.

  2. I think that the ramleela production was a way of expressing how our hindu culture is precious and hindusim is a very artistic religion. My thoughts of taking fabric and draping the walls are very creative, expressive, original, artistic and very stylish.I have never taught of taking saris and decorating the coloumns. The mood was very spritual and holy and also artistic. It impacted on me to be more religious it made me feel as if i was in india. The school can light deyas and also bend bamboo as a project.I am going to paint my kalsa and bend bamboo and light deyas on them.

I would say that I saw both the Ramlela production as well as the art aspect of it like the background was painted to show their where they are.Using the saris was a great idea to drape the walls really beautified the walls of the school and I would honestly say that I would have never thought of that idea. The mood was one of happiness. The transformation made me proud to be a Hindu. For next year we could bend bamboo in to shapes like deeyas. In our home we used lots of religious pictures and set them around the house and lit deeyas around the house.

  5. Well,in the morning was extremely good because it had alot of bhajans being sung my our principal ( Ranjeet Bhagloo ),You Mr. Dilip and the musical group. In the evening was spectacular because of the ramleela with the help of Mr. Prabkar. The scenery of the background of the forest was amazing because it was brought to life by the palm trees.Well the school does't need anything to improve it because it is amazing just the way it was.My family and I will be decorating our house with deeyas and with lights on our walls

well i think that the play performed by the students of Vishnu boys Hindu college was beautiful and the art showed in the play was breathless but the main thing that caught my eyes were the fabulous use of saris on the column and when i first entered the compounded of the school i felt a rush of excitement in the air as everyone was anxiously waiting for the drama to start, however i think that for next year's devali, our school should have it in the night time and have a light up with deyas and do some rongoly designs, and for me at home i decorated our mandir with deyas and also decorated our street with deyas and bamboo.Lastly i would like to wish every one happy devali.

  7. I think that the ramleela play in school was very good it would show the students in school a different expierence like those students who did not know about ramleela. The art aspect of the ramleela was how they took the sheet and spraintpaint the trees to get the forest effect.I think how the saris were on the gate in school brought out a bright effect I also think that the school should put some big, beautiful rangolis infront. For divali I deorated my home with deeyas I also took deeyas and make a om.

i think the ramleela play was great.I liked the background, i thought the painted forest with the real plants was brilliant. The real plants made the forest look real and it made it feel like there was an actual forest right in front of you.I also liked the various saris which was on display,it was very artistic.I think that the way they decorated the school yard with flags and saris was very nice and it attracted lots of attention.I enjoyed myself that day and hope it will have many more to come.

  13. The art done by Mr. Maharaj in the Ramleela was very beautiful. .The many uses of these decorations, the textiles, the color, the fabric was very inspirational.I admired the fact that he improvised with the use of saris as drapes.I think that this idea was very well thought out. I think that a very celestial mood that occurred in the school. This transformation impacted on me as I was proud to wear the uniform and feel school pride. My suggestion for next year's decoration is to put the saris on bamboo and join them to create a recurring line going around the school. There are not many decorations in my home but we try to improvise by putting up new curtains and painting the house.

  14. Sir,i would say that the art in making the backdrop was art alone, the material used to make the uniforms was made of cotton/fabric.The saris they used to drape the walls of the school made it outstanding brought out the creativity of the school. It casted an exciting mood over the school.i was happy.

  18. No,I did not see ramleela alone I saw the art aspect too.It was a brilliant idea to take saris to dress the columns.A peaceful and beautiful mood.It impacted on me by giving me a head in the art subject.Next year you can put some balloons at the entrance of the school.Well I can't light any deyas because my grand dad passed away and I can't light any deyas.
